Replacement of barrel elevators in the manufacturing sector

Client

Pharmaceutical

Location

Montreal area (Quebec), Canada

Service

Project management

Context

At the client’s site, the barrel elevators used to lift and pour barrels of powder with varying degrees of explosiveness were non-compliant in terms of their electrical components. This equipment was used in classified areas across multiple manufacturing rooms.

Mandate

Genipro was mandated with implementing new barrel elevators in various manufacturing sectors to replace those that were electrically non-compliant, aiming to eliminate any electrical and static risks during operation in explosive zones. The new barrel elevators had to be certified for use in HAC (Hazardous Area Classification) explosive zones and come with ATEX compliance certification (explosive atmosphere for electrical and mechanical risk) or an equivalent certification.

Highlights

The primary challenge for this project was the exhaustive search for specialized suppliers to meet the stringent requirements. While numerous forklift suppliers exist in the market, only a handful specialize in equipment compliant with ATEX standards. Ultimately, a European supplier perfectly aligned with the project's criteria and needs was selected.
